Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is very common amongst young and middle aged women.
To be diagnosed with this condition you need to have 2 out of 3 criteria
- Polycystic appearing ovaries on ultrasound
- A hormone imbalance which may cause acne, oily skin or excess hair growth
- Irregular periods
PCOS is a constellation of symptoms which often seem to go hand in hand rather than a disease.
Symptoms many include irregular periods, acne / pimples, excess hair growth, difficulty falling pregnant and weight gain. If one of these symptoms is bothering you it can be treated. If you do not have any of these symptoms there is no need for treatment. Your gynaecologist at O&G will guide you through all of the treatment options.
