Dr. Prabhath Wagaarachchi has extensive experience in Gynaecological & Laparoscopic surgery and has worked in public and private sectors as well as academic tertiary education for almost 20 years.

Dr. Wagaarachchi is highly regarded among his patients due to his ability to provide comprehensive surgical advice, and his excellent level of care for women of all ages. He is among the handful of Australian surgeons who perform surgery including myomectomies (removal of fibroids) via a laparoscopic (‘keyhole’) approach. Dr Wagaarachchi is also a specialist in the removal of pelvic floor mesh.

Dr. Wagaarachchi graduated from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka with Honours (MBBS) in 1991. His postgraduate training was in the UK and he worked as a Specialist Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Aberdeen before arriving in Australia. Dr Wagaarachchi identified Minimal Access Gynaecological Surgery as his area of special interest early in his career.

Dr Wagaarachchi has been instrumental in training many Gynaecologists in laparoscopic surgery. He has an extensive list of publications in recognised medical journals.

Currently Dr Wagaarachchi is Head of Gynaecology and a Laparoscopic Surgeon at Women’s and Childen’s Hospital, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He is also a Visiting Specialist Gynaecologist and Health Services Advisor at North-West WA (Hedland Health Campus).
